BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Franmar remains committed to restocking BLUE BEAR Lead Out Lead-Based Paint Stripper and its professional counterpart, BLUE BEAR Lead Out 690PB Lead Paint Remover, but currently has no timetable for their return to the market.

The two products rely on a key ingredient: Franmar’s patented Molecular Bonding System. The MBS powder works in conjunction with a soy-based paint stripper to change lead into a non-hazardous compound that’s safe for removal and disposal. Franmar’s source for the powder is no longer in business and Franmar is searching worldwide for a suitable replacement.

“Our Lead Out paint strippers have been a popular product with professionals and DIYers. They are easy to use, affordable and provide safe options for lead paint removal,” said General Manager Tim Whitlock. “We are working with a chemist and have contacted numerous distributors and manufacturers with the goal of developing a new source for our MBS powder. To date, we have not found one that meets Franmar’s standards for safety and effectiveness.”

In the meantime, BLUE BEAR Soy Gel and Safenol paint strippers, as well as their professional counterparts, BLUE BEAR Soy Gel 600GL Coatings Remover and 605PRO with Safenol Multipurpose Coatings Remover, are also able to remove lead paint. These products work by encapsulating lead, which prevents airborne particles and allows it to be disposed of safely.
