Removing Barnacles

September 14, 2017 | Posted by Franmar

Pesky barnacles are something that many boat owners have to deal with. They are very stubborn and will ruthlessly attach themselves to boats, docks, and piers despite all the hard work of trying to protect against them. Boat owners know the process to remove them can be very tiring and time-consuming, but is necessary for boat upkeep. Thankfully Franmar has two products that help alleviate this process.

A boat is the perfect haven for barnacles because of all the fiberglass and aluminum. Barnacles usually make a home for themselves on the hull which can dramatically decrease a boat’s speed and will cost more money in fuel. Unfortunately, removing them is usually part of regular boat maintenance. It’s well known that getting rid of barnacles can be a very difficult process. A putty knife or paint scraper, a power washer, and a harsh acid are needed.

But thankfully, Franmar has two safe alternatives to the harsh, harmful acids that are usually used. 760CE Concrete Etcher and 720ES Exterior Surface Cleaner are great drop-in replacements for the acids typically used, such as hydrochloric, sulfuric, or muriatic acid. 760CE Concrete Etcher is a safe organic replacement that cleans with the same industrial strength as harsh acids. It is non-fuming, environmentally safe, and 100% biodegradable. 720ES Exterior Surface Cleaner is a natural cleaner made from pineapple and other mild natural acids, along with super infused surfactants. As opposed to other acids used, these products don’t even require the use of gloves!

While we know the process to remove barnacles is time-consuming and takes a bit of elbow grease, Franmar can help, with none of the hazards of the other traditional, harsh acids.
